Maya Govind, HR Director - Nielsen

Maya is HR Director of Sub Saharan Africa from Nielsen.  Starting out as a Talent  Practitioner in Edcon, Maya career’s has spun across 14 years and she has worked in several multinationals including Edcon,BMW, Barclays and  most recently Nielsen.

Maya has always found herself between a generalist and specialist function within the HR discipline. She believes this has made her more empathetic and mindful to the challenges / opportunities within the value chain across various iterations of the operating model.

Born in Port Elizabeth, Durban; having studied in Cape Town and now living and working in Johannesburg, she is insatiably curious about human potential. She believes that harnessing strength from a variety of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives allows her the privilege to explore human engagement – challenge mind-sets, motives and methods to get people to show up in the right way for what matters. Maya is truly passionate about making a difference to people's lives and being a steward in all she does.

Finally, Maya holds a Bachelor’s of Art in Clinical and  Industrial Psychology and a Master of Business Administration in Business Administration and Management  from the Henley Business School.
